In a move that will reduce travel time and ensure smooth movement of vehicles between Jaipur and Delhi, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to barricade the 225km-long Jaipur-Gurgaon stretch of the National Highway 8 (NH-8) and close all illegal crossroads across the highway.
Fencing will be carried out on both sides of the highway, resulting in uninterrupted vehicular movement on the main carriageway and service lanes. According to NHAI officials, casualties have also been mounting on the stretch in the absence of any defined entry and exit points.
“Accidents are occurring as villagers enter the highway from anywhere. There are no designated points for entry and exit. Commuters too have repeatedly complained about the menace. So, we have decided to properly barricade the road,” said an NHAI official.
“Several roadside food joints and shops too have come up on the highway. They have illegally levelled the approach to the highway by filling it with soil. This has caused many accidents in the recent past,” added the official.
